New Volkswagen Group CEO: “We Will Overcome this Crisis”

Speaking at a works meeting in Wolfsburg today the CEO of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Matthias Müller, promised employees “swift and relentless clarification” of the emissions scandal. He said that what had happened went against everything the Group and its people stand for and that there was no excuse. At the same time he encouraged employees to take heart: “We can and we will overcome this crisis, because Volkswagen is a group with a strong foundation. And above all because we have the best automobile team anyone could wish for.” He added that the company would do everything it could to ensure that Volkswagen continues to stand for good and secure jobs in the future. Volkswagen Group Sets Aside 6.5 Billion Euros for Fines, Admits Software Could Be Present on 11M Vehicles

It seems that the Volkswagen Group’s TDI issue also involving the A3 2.0 TDI may be a bit larger than had originally been thought. In a statement released today, Volkswagen says that while all TDI models currently sold in Europe meet EU 6 emissions standards, the code in question could be present on some 11 million Volkswagen Group vehicles currently on the road. As such, the company has already set aside 6.5 billion Euros for expected fines. Now, although so many vehicles do have this coding in their ECU, Volkswagen says that on most cars, “the software does not have any effect.” We certainly hope that this is the case. More…

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., today, joined Gov. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jim Boxold, state and local dignitaries, as well as AMPORTS, one of the largest auto processors in North America, to announce the Port of Jacksonville, Fla. (JAXPORT) as VWGoA’s Southeastern U.S. port. Factory-new Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley vehicles will be imported and distributed through the port.
