Some of the most expensive real estate in America, stunningly beautiful scenery, and a focus on recreation… like skiing or snowboarding. Aspen, the winter playground for the rich and famous, seems like as good a place as any to sample the new and improved A8/S8 range from Audi. More…

When the idea of the A3 sedan was first hatched, Audi executives mentioned the term “B5”. To many less familiar with the brand this innocuous alphanumeric may not have meant much, but to those dialed in it meant something very special. It meant this new littlest Audi sedan has big shoes to fill.

One of the great things about an Audi S-car has always been the combination of strong performance with every day livability, particularly in snowy climates. 2013/2014 is proving to be a robust winter thus far, and cars like the recently refreshed Audi S5 are well suited to weather the cold in updated style. When it comes to the Audi RS 7, I plead the 5th. I refuse to recount who’s driving or the exact state (other than heady euphoria) in which we’re driving, somewhere near the California/Nevada border. I refuse to reveal any of these details on the grounds they may incriminate my co-driver or me as we blast down a lonely stretch of long and straight tarmac at 140 mph while tucked behind a second grey RS 7.

#TDIRoadTrip: Sebring, FL to Audi of America HQ in Herndon, VA in the new Audi A8 TDI

The distance from Sebring, FL to Audi of America’s hometown of Herndon, VA is precisely 949 miles – most of it a straight shot northbound on I-95 and a trip that should take around 14 hours. Like the 12 Hours of Sebring where Audi has just won again, this trip is also a test of endurance and, like Sebring, one best tackled with a few close friends on your driver team. More…

Car or SUV? Half empty or half full? This is just a sampling of the unavoidable interrogative tone that indevitably surfaces when a European marque dials up the performance and affixes suggestive chrome letters to the back side of a crossover… all while sought-after performance wagons remain on the other side of the pond. Such is the state of being for a crossover like the 354 hp Audi SQ5. More…

The stock wheels on our TT have garnered plenty of attention, but there’s always the temptation to try something different. In our case, we wanted something with an OE+ tie and looked to the R8 GT. We paired those with some of the latest all-season tires from Michelin. More…

Driven: 2014 Audi R8 V10 plus S tronic

Cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway just north of Malibu, I fight the urge to divert my eyes from the road and focus on the large houses nestled up in the hills as I curiously scan for the certainly fictitious pad of Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man). Unlike the homes I’m ogling, Stark’s abode isn’t east of PCH. It’s likely too good to be true, portrayed on the silver screen as mounted high atop a cliff that sits above the cresting waves of the Pacific Ocean. So far as I can tell, no such real estate nor cliff exists that close to the Pacific unless it’s in Stan Lee’s imagination. I turn back to the road and reach out, pressing the Sport button on the transmission of the 2014 Audi R8 V10 plus that I’m driving. I ease my foot off the throttle as I begin to roll toward a yellow light that will go red imminently. More…

“competition”. It is one of the latest designations in Audi’s repertoire of limited models. Near as we can tell it began with upgrade packages for the A1, and now Audi has begun to roll out some kitted models that bear the name. We were intrigued enough to add one to our fleet in the form of a TT.

Though based on the same platform and sharing the same drivetrain, the new S6 sedan and S7 Sportback are distinctly different cars. We hit the winding roads of the undulating and slithering Hudson River Valley in upstate New York in order to get a taste and also to catalog the differences.

Driven: 2013 Audi SQ5 TDI

So the word is out. Audi will bring the SQ5 to America, albeit without the 3.0-liter Bi-TDI engine and instead with a pumped version of the familiar 3.0 TFSI. That’s likely for the better given American market tastes, fuel prices and frankly for tenability. All that being said, the move firms even more the notion that the S4 Avant will not return to America any time soon. While many wagon fans likely will be in an uproar and at least one American enthusiast is in the midst of building his own S4 Avant, we’ll attempt to put the SQ5 into context having had a chance to log some miles recently on a European market SQ5 TDI.

Driven: 2013 Audi A5 Sportback 1.8 TFSI

posted by on 7 January 2013 in Reviews & Road Tests

driven sportback cover 600x300 photo

That the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond for import car enthusiasts seems to be a universal norm. As Americans we envision Europeans blasting away on empty autobahns in obscure Audi S or RS models that we simply don’t get and shifting their manual transmissions that, more often than not nowadays, they don’t even get. And while that may be what we imagine, the reality is that the autobahn is getting more and more congested and that a tank of ‘petrol’ is exceedingly expensive on the ‘right’ side of the Atlantic. Over there small displacement tends to be the more likely euro reality and cars like the A5 Sportback may already be Euro only, but ordered as a 1.8 TFSI and without quattro is a much more likely scenario for a German Audi owner than is an RS 4 Avant. Having always lusted for the A5 Sportback, we decided to sample the car and see if even the smallest engine variant would capture our hearts.
