The idea, however plausible, has been quite legitimate from day one having come directly from Audi’s then newly-hired development chief Wolfgang Duerheimer. Fresh from his return from the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mr. Duerheimer was struck with the idea of doing an above-R8 hyper car that built upon Audi’s victories at Le Mans even further with a car very directly inspired by the R18 e-tron quattro.
