A week before the Champions League final, London will be under the banner of motorsport. On its European tour, the DTM will stop on the outskirts of the British capital on May 18 and 19. Jon Olsson may be best known for his competitive freestyle skiing, but around these parts he’s the Gumballer with the insane supercharged, carbon-bodied and ski box bedecked R8 V10. Jon’s Audi was built with PPI GTR bodywork and STaSIS supercharger specifically to impress on the Gumball 3000 road rally and that it did. So how does he follow it up? Well, he’s gone and built himself a “street legal” LMP car with the help of former Koenigsegg chief engineer Leif Tufvesson.

It’s a poorly kept secret that the next-generation Audi A3 will shift from being based on a 3-door hatchback to being based on a notchback form likely sharing much with the recently revealed A3/S3 sedan. Remember the on-again/off-again rumor of an Audi sportscar, let’s call it R4, that could or would have been based on a mid-engine MQB derived platform that was first showcased with the Volkswagen Bluesport TDI concept car? To be frank, the rumor has been more off again than on, but fresh fuel was thrown on the ever-so-burning embers of this rumor this week when Volkswagen Group chief of design Walter de Silva spoke on the issue of such a car… at least such a Volkswagen.

Though it’s been going on officially or unofficially for over a week, today marks the official opening of the Audi presence as well as other official displays from Volkswagen Group siblings, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen.
