How long have you owned this car?
I purchased the Avant in February of 2004. This was after having a deer wanting to get up close and personal with my full Projektzwo 225 Audi TT. After having the car repaired, I just felt that the car was damaged goods.
Is there anything unique about the history of this car? The funniest thing I remember is when I mentioned to my wife that my next car was going to be a station wagon. The expression on her face was like I just told her I was buying a Yugo.
Why did you choose this car to purchase? After owning 2 Trailer Queens for over a 7 year spanned, I wanted a car that I could drive on daily basis and really enjoy. Another important factor was my son. He’s growing like a weed, so we needed a car with some leg room in the back.
What other cars did you consider? The only other car I considered was a 2004 Audi S4. However, I knew deep down inside it would also become another car that would be sitting in the garage waiting for that perfect day.
What was your objective with this car? To build a wagon with a distinctive look. Also a car that would make people think, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
What tuning style would you describe this car as? (ex. Euro, Bling, OEMplus, street racer, auto crosser). Defiantly a Euro look all the way. I want to go with a look that most U.S. based magazines don’t have.
Who helped you build this car? The person who helped the most was my wife. She has trusted me with all the decision making with all of my projects. She always says that I have a good vision in my head when it comes to building a car.
What makes your car special? I strongly feel that the wheels give the car a great touch. I’ve always had my eye on these wheels dating back to the 1552 Design days. I would see European pictures of when Brad and Adrian went to shows displaying Mercedes Benz with all the right touches, and the wheels blew me away.
What is your favorite part/feature/function? I enjoy the fact that I now have a car that will catch an eye every now and then, while my family and I are enjoying our trip back from the grocery store.
Who or what inspired the direction of modifications on this car? After pushing my previous cars to the limit ranging from a Full Projektzwo TT sporting 19” BBS LM’s/Kenisis Supercups to a Fully Projektzwo including many engine modifications, and a Supercharged VR6 GTI with custom interior, and way too many other modification to list, I wanted a car that I could go out to play in, but not worry about hurting it.
What don’t you like about this car? The car isn’t over 300hp yet. Also with the color being black it makes me work a little harder to keep it clean.
What was your biggest obstacle in building this car? My biggest obstacle is to keeping the car practical enough for my everyday events.
How did you overcome the issue? I went out and picked up my new project, which is an 83 GTI. I am also currently working on my wife’s 91 VW “Etienne Aigner” Edition Cabriolet
What would you change if you could? The only thing would be maybe having a different color. But on the bright side of this nothing beats a really clean black car.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the outcome of this project? I truly believe nothing is a perfect 10, so with a couple more future modifications I would say it will be pretty damn close.
What would you do to the car if money were no object? Take the car to a level that nobody has ever seen. But to be honest I would have to kill you if I told you. The wife has already given me the green light to take it there. So only time will tell.
Who has been your biggest critic of this project? I would think I am right now. I get quite a few complements around my area and at the shows, but deep down inside I know I can always make it better.
What do your family and friends say about this car? They all think that I’ve hit the jackpot with this one. I totally caught everyone off guard with getting rid of the TT to this.
What is your most memorable/humorous/embarrassing moment with this car? The very first show I took the car to. I parked the car outside of the show area, but still managed to get a good amount of pictures taken and forum threads questioning about the car on the net.
Has this car competed in any events? The car hasn’t been in any shows to date. This is to keep me for going back to my “showaholic” tendencies. I really just enjoy having a chance talking with old friends I’ve made in my 15 years of being around the VW and Audi scene.
What is your favorite place to drive this car? I enjoy driving down to see my family who live about 25 miles away from me. This is a win / win situation, because I can spend time with my family, plus testing out the car on the bends of the narrow country roads getting there.
What is your ideal day with this car? A nice cool day with the sun shining bright, and having no where to be.
Who gets to drive this car? I’m always willing to let the wife drive the Avant, because it gives me a chance to drive her 2001 Pelican Blue A4 Sedan which she is starting to fix up.
If your car had a motto, what would it be? Black Is Beautiful
If you had to name your car, what would you name it? The name would be “Raven” because of my Baltimore Ravens.
What was your previous project? 2001 225 Audi TT
What is your next project? 1983 VW GTI
What one word best describes your car? Intimidating
