- Supercharged V6 Audi S4 Avant generates 245 kW, 440 Nm
- High-revving V8 powerplant Audi RS4 Avant with 331 kW, 430 Nm
Audi South Africa is introducing two new sporty Avant models in the premium B-segment – the S4 Avant and the RS4 Avant.
The heart of the new S4 Avant is a completely redesigned 3.0 TFSI engine, the newest member of the Audi V-engine family, which is an outstanding example of how the brand with the four rings blends performance and efficiency.
The V6 generates its power from a displacement of 2,995 cc, is equipped with a supercharger, and delivers 245 kW. The Avant sprints to100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h.
The V6 power in the new S4 Avant flows into a seven-speed S tronic which is extremely dynamic and highly efficient. The driver has the option of driving in fully automatic mode or selecting the gears with paddles on the steering wheel or directly with the shift lever – all of which provide impressively quick gearshifts.
The quattro® permanent all-wheel drive system transfers power to the road with supreme ease. Under regular driving conditions, it sends 40 percent of its torque to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear wheels – a slightly rear-biased, sporty characteristic. Where necessary, it can vary distribution within fractions of a second. The quattro® drive system ensures safe self-steering characteristics, high stability and excellent traction in comparison with rear-wheel-drive competitors.
Some of the most striking modifications to the exterior design are the special aprons, the aluminum-look exterior mirrors, the 19-inch Rotor-design light-alloy wheels, the side rocker panels, the restrained spoiler at the rear and the quadruple exhaust system. The xenon plus headlights with daytime running lights and the rear lights are further distinctive touches.
The interior also underscores the sporty expertise that is the hallmark of this new S model. The instrument panel features gray dials with white needles and also bear the S4 emblem, as do the multifunction sport steering wheel and the key. The interior is in black, with brushed aluminum inlays.
The Audi S4 Avant is now available in South Africa and is priced at R637 000, including all taxes and the 5 year/100 000km Audi Freeway Plan.
The Audi RS4 Avant
The third-generation Audi RS 4 Avant combines potent performance with a high level of everyday practicality. Its 4.2-litre V8 produces 331 kW, while the seven-speed S tronic and quattro® permanent all-wheel drive transfer that power to the road.
The Audi RS 4 Avant uses the same high-revving, normally aspirated V8 engine that powers the RS 5 Coupé. The responsive V8 accelerates the RS 4 Avant from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds on its way to a governed top speed of 250 km/h. The 4.2 FSI engine combines its impressive power with impressive efficiency, consuming on average less than 11 litres of fuel per 100 km.
Drivers can let the dual-clutch transmission shift automatically or change gears manually using the selector lever or the paddles on the steering wheel. For fast starts the Launch Control can be activated.
Like every RS model from Audi, the RS 4 Avant comes standard with quattro® permanent all-wheel drive. The heart of this system is the crown-gear centre differential. The default 40:60 ratio of the rear-biased configuration ensures sporty handling.
The Audi drive select driving dynamics system is standard equipment for the RS 4 Avant. With it, the driver can switch between three modes – comfort, auto and dynamic – to determine the characteristics of the steering, the seven-speed
S tronic and the throttle valve. Audi drive select can even vary the sound of the exhaust system and double-declutching when downshifting in dynamic mode.
The exterior design flaunts the athletic character of the RS 4 Avant. The hexagonal single-frame grille is set in a frame with a matte aluminum-look finish; its honeycomb insert is finished in high-gloss anthracite. LED daytime running lights encircle the standard xenon plus units like a clasp in the wedge-shaped headlights. The air flows through large openings divided by crossbars and embedded in a distinctive bumper featuring a splitter edge like on a race car. It is 20 millimetres longer and 24 millimetres wider than the A4 Avant, but 20 millimetres lower.
The interior of the Audi RS4 Avant is clad completely in black, with carbon inlays and an aluminium-look finish which subtly accentuates switches and control elements. The pedals and footrest are also given an aluminium-look finish, complemented by aluminium inserts with RS4 badging in the door sills. The driver information system with colour display includes an RS menu with a lap timer and oil thermometer. Audi connect is also available as an option, connecting the vehicle to the internet and turning it into a Wi-fi hotspot.
