Everyone know that the R8 V10 Plus is a remarkably quick car, but just how much more plus is it? AutoExpress sought to find out by pitting the R8 V10 Plus against the R8 V10 over a thousand meter drag race.
With 0-60 times independently clocked on the exciting side of 2 seconds, the Audi R8 V10 Plus has been one of 2016’s super cars to beat. But the R8 V10 is no slouch.
With 540 horses kicking around under the hood, it’s not what you’d call underpowered. It’s still about 70 hp down on its bigger, heavier brother, though.
Predictably, when the tires hit the tarmac, the Plus beats the regular R8 by a healthy margin. The regular R8 does manage to keep up off the line, though. After the first or second gear shift, though, the Plus starts to walk away.
While it takes the regular R8 20.5 seconds to finish the kilometer (0.6 miles), the Plus finishes the run in just 19.9 seconds, a result that doesn’t quite express how great the difference looks on camera. The Plus is also going 168 mph at that point, whereas the R8 is only going 162 mph.
According Auto Express’s telemetry, the Plus ekes out its greatest advantage between 30 and 60 miles per hour. Reaching 60 mph in just three seconds, the Plus is a full half second faster than the regular R8.
And there you have it. Although the R8 is by no means slow, there’s quite a lot of Plus to be had with the R8 V10 Plus.
