Spied: Audi A3 Sedan Test Mule Making Its Rounds
posted by George Achorn on 31 January 2013 in Rumors, Renders & Spy Photos
Though it’s been spied several times in the last few weeks, we’ve just added another set of photos to the mix for those eagerly anticipating the upcoming Audi A3 sedan. Enthusiasts are hoping the car will mark the second coming of the long-lamented B5 A4 and Audi certainly wouldn’t mind revisiting some of that car’s magic. To be certain, the size will be about the same and a expected 2.0 TFSI-powered S3 and 2.5 TFSI-powered RS 3 should each respectively overpower their B5 forebears.
So what else do we know about the A3 sedan? The idea for the car is said to have come from former Audi of America President (now Infiniti President) Johan de Nysschen, while the sedan-loving Chinese market through in some promised volume to help make the business case. In the time since the sedan concept’s first appearance in Geneva two years ago, even Europe seems to be highly anticipating the sedan.
So when will it appear? Soon… as in during the first or second quarter soon. It’s possible that the car could appear by Geneva given what we know of Audi’s rollout intentions, but we’re not betting on that. Press days for the New York Auto Show are March 27-28 and AutoShanghai is April 20. Our money is on one of those two events marking the car’s debut as they’re also the last major auto shows until September’s Frankfurt IAA.
