Though really designed in a period when Audi was showing fortitude in its struggle to survive, the B1 Audi 80 ushered in a whole new era for Ingolstadt. Its front-wheel drive chassis marked a new modern era for Audi – a brand that had really struggled following World War II when its factories all fell behind the Iron Curtain. Cars like the B1 Audi 80 hit the market just as the Volkswagen Group acquired Audi from Mercedes-Benz, and today pristine examples of these early B1s have become collectors items. Perhaps it’s no surprise then that these cars are also being created by model car manufacturers such as Minichamps.
This particular yellow model (item# 400015001) is a limited edition. Just 1008 pieces will be produced in this yellow configuration – a 1:43rd scale model with such high detail that even the 70’s era houndstooth seats are visible. We found out about this new offering via Minichamps directly, though the easiest way to pick yourself up a copy would be to contact a Minichamps dealer in the USA or watch sites like Ebay and German Ebay.
We’ve added several photos of this scale model from various angles to our photo archives. You can see this car’s gallery via the link below or to the right.
