Mattias Ekstrom missed winning a rallycross final for the first time this season, in Belgium. Instead, the Swede finished fourth in a hectic final in Mettet, Belgium.
The race doubly disappointing for Ekström, for whom a victory would have meant winning all four season-opening races, a feat that has never been accomplished. Ekström wasn’t too worried about it, though.
“I’m not interested in records. I’m still the leader of the standings and that’s what matters,” said Ekström.
He will have some work to do to hold onto his lead, though, as his main competition, VW’s Johan Kristoffersson, managed to finish first and got himself to within three points of Ekström in the championship.
Ekström will look to extend his lead over Kristoffersson at the next rallycross, on May 26, at Lydden Hill in the UK.
