Early this morning, Audi Sport factory driver Allan McNish dropped a bomb on the world of motorsport when he abruptly announced his decision to retire having just recently secured his place on the 2013 championship winning team in the World Endurance Challenge. Though not as young as some of his teammates, many drivers in motorsport and especially sportscar racing choose to continue their careers well beyond his age of 44. Even still, McNish isn’t most drivers.
#AlwaysFlatOut is the Scot’s tagline and it seems fitting that this driver who always kept the volume of his pace turned to 11 has decided to go out on top. Moreso, McNish explains his decision to call it quits in an audio file released by his PR team earlier today. We’ve paired it with a mix of photos of Allan we shot at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and have uploaded it as video to YouTube.
