There’s been no shortage of videos covering Audi’s historic win at the 2013 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. It’s no surprise that such a momentous occasion was marked by numerous videos from various sources including Audi themselves and also this website. As such, we’ve amassed several that you really must see. Here’s a rundown in what we believe to be roughly the order in which they occurred.
R8 GRAND-AM Garage Timelapse
This one’s quick, but very, very cool. Many hours of preparation of the Audi R8 GRAND-AMs at the Audi Sport customer racing facility in Ohio show just a fraction of all the work involved in prepping these winning cars.
Frank Stippler Hot Lap
APR Motorsport #52 R8 GRAND-AM driver Frank Stippler takes you on a hot lap of the Daytona Circuit in an Audi R8 safety car.
Audi Owner Parade Laps
Just before the start of the race, Audi owners and Audi club members were able to take a parade lap. We caught them when they passed our location in turn 3.
Vintage Parade Laps
Before the start of the race, several vintage cars of honor ran some quick laps. We caught video of them as they passed turn 3. The cars mark an eclectic mix and with no Audi content. We’d suggest not missing a Ferrari 365 Daytona coupe that begins his pass at around 40 seconds into the clip and at about 55 seconds into the clip he’s in full oversteer. Enjoy.
2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona: The Start
Shot and produced by Audi of America, here’s 1:44 seconds of footage that takes you from the start of race week to the start of the 24 hour race.
APR Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona Trailer
APR Motorsport shot a lot of footage of their win – a 2nd place spot of which they’re proud as hell. We’re guessing they plan a longer piece, but they’ve teased us just this afternoon with a trailer.
Lap of Daytona, View from Above
Late in the race and during a yellow flag period, we joined quattro GmbH boss Frank van Meel for a stroll through the France family hospitality suite, up a winding staircase and on to the roof of the main grandstands. What we saw was a rare view of the track few get to view, and it just so happened that the #52 and #24 cars were leaving the pits while we were there. The opportunity afforded us a nearly unobstructed view of the entire track as you can see from this video.
Last Lap of Daytona, in the #24 Audi Pits (NSFW)
We were lucky enough to be in the pits of the winning #24 Audi when it crossed the line and were able to capture some of what happened in between shooting still photos. This clip shows the winning drivers (less Filipe Albuquerque who was driving) as they watch their teammate come around for the last time. Later it shows the team celebrating. As you might guess given the high level of emotion entailed with Audi’s first Daytona win, there’s some swearing in here. Be aware.
2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona: The Finish
Here’s a beautifully shot 3 minute feature by Audi of America. If you want the feel of the race in 3 minutes, watch this spot, including smokey burnout shot of Filipe after the win.
