Paul Miller Racing Switches from Audi to Lamborghini for 2016 IMSA Season

Audi Sport customer racing’s most successful North American team Paul Miller Racing has announced that it will migrate from their current Audi R8 to the new Lamborghini Huracan GT3. Paul Miller Racing contested the 2015 season and was dominantly in the fight for the GTD class championship right up to the end of the season.

Paul Miller Racing’s presence amongst Audi Sport customer teams will be missed. 2016 required a jump from the old R8 LMS ultra to the new R8 LMS, or some other vehicle. While the New Jersey-based team will still be in the Audi-owned Lamborghini fold, we hate to see them leave the four ring fold.

PARSIPPANY, New Jersey  – Paul Miller Racing will campaign a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in an all-out bid to win the 2016 GT Daytona (GTD) class championship.

The news was confirmed by Paul Miller Racing Team Owner Paul Miller following an announcement earlier today by Automobili Lamborghini.

The move to the Huracán GT3 Lamborghini Squadra Corse customer team program follows two competitive seasons in IMSA’s top-tier series that saw Paul Miller Racing battle for the GTD championship both last year and in 2015. The team finished third in the final point standings of this year’s season, which concluded less than three weeks ago, and placed second in the 2014 GTD championship.

Joining the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 program in its first season of competition in North America in 2016 puts Paul Miller Racing in a good position to contend for another title.

“All of us at Paul Miller Racing are excited to be partnering with Lamborghini in its inaugural season of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition in 2016,” Miller said. We fully expect the Huracán to be a GTD contender from the onset of the season and, as a team, we are very confident in our ability and familiarity with a mid-engine platform after our last two successful seasons of competition.”

Paul Miller Racing sealed the 2014 GTD championship runner-up honor with a victory in the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. This year, Paul Miller Racing won a class-leading four poles and led the GTD standings for most of the season before the third-place championship result.

Lamborghini’s move into GTD comes as the class adopts the 2016 FIA GT3 specifications for all of its entries. The 585-horsepower Huracán GT3 was born from a desire to offer factory-built and supported cars to customers worldwide. It is the first GT3 car to be fully engineered, developed and assembled internally by Automobili Lamborghini and the Huracán has already proven itself in Europe this year, winning the season-opening race in the Blancpain Endurance Series in Monza, Italy in April.

Paul Miller Racing is actively working on its 2016 drivers for the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 and hopes to have the lineup confirmed in the coming weeks.
