This past weekend’s Bathurst 12 Hour was yet another motorsport success for Audi, as the R8 LMS took home first in class honors, and a 4th place overall finish. But as the event itself doesn’t get the notoriety of many US-based endurance competitions like the 6 Hours of Sebring and Rolex 24 at Daytona, many Audi fans aren’t familiar with the event, nor the circuit that hosts it. Luckily, driver Christopher Mies has uploaded a video from his time during Free Practice 4 that should help casual viewers get acquainted with the track.
Now usually when we post a video of racecars on circuit, we’d tell you to turn the volume up. In this case, the video is loud as hell, so we’ll warn you to keep it on a lower setting. For nearly nine minutes, Christopher flies around Mount Panorama Circuit in his #74 Jamec PEM Audi R8 LMS, with a helmet-mounted GoPro capturing it all, including a near-miss with a McLaren at the 3:20 mark.
Mies and teammates Marco Mapelli and Christopher Haase were unfortunately forced to retire from the Bathurst 12 Hour after suffering a tire failure at nearly 170mph.
