Formula E: Lucas di Grassi and Abt Sportsline Win Inaugural Formula E Round in Beijing

Audi factory driver Lucas di Grassi and the Audi Sport ABT Formula E team won the inaugural event of the new all-electric FIA Formula E Championship with FIA President Jean Todt watching the race on location. The Brazilian celebrated the historic victory following a dramatic race that was only decided in the final corner of the total of 25 race laps. Next weekend, di Grassi will return to the cockpit of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro hybrid sports car in round four of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Austin (USA).

Last September most anyone in automotive journalism was prepping for the Frankfurt motor show. A-listers were probably flying into Frankfurt as invited guests of manufacturers or test-driving new models in ahead of the event. Others were likely in Germany trying to nail down a few local stories before heading in for the event. Such was the case for Motor Trend YouTube staffer Jessi Lang who’d gone to Kempten, Germany in order to test drive the Audi R8 GTR built by Abt Sportsline. The forecasts from Bavaria are unequivocal: in spring and summer 2014, wind speeds of up to 290 kph are certainly very possible, especially when the sun is shining. This is because ABT Sportsline, the globally largest tuner of Volkswagen brands, has done away with the original speed limiter of the Audi RS5 Cabrio. Now, the 450 hp (331 kW) 4.2 FSI can show what it’s really able to do. Abt Sportline Opens 2,400 sq Meter Motorsport Center

ABT Sportsline has got a new home. Right in time before the start of the season, the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group has opened its new, state-of-the-art motorsport center next to its headquarter in Kempten, Bavaria. On 2,400 sq m, a staff of about 50 will now prepare the four Audi RS5 DTM’s for the DTM and develop the FIA Formula E activities. More…
