A once-in-a-lifetime gathering of Silver Arrows saw a lively demonstration each day of the Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union racers vigorously tackling the Goodwood circuit. When resting, the cars were housed in their own distinctive paddock, constructed specifically for the 2012 Revival, and accurately recreating the paddock shelters of the Bremgarten circuit’ home to the Swiss Grand Prix in the 1930s. Audi and Mercedes-Benz will celebrate this weekend’s Goodwood Revival event with a rare running of the iconic German pre-war Silver Arrow racing cars. Among the mix will be Audi’s newly acquired Auto Union Type D, as well as a host of other originals and painstakingly accurate replicas. In honour of racing legend Bernd Rosemeyer, Audi Tradition is bringing four Auto Union Silver Arrow cars to the Goodwood Revival (September 14 to 16) in the south of England. Over the three days, renowned drivers will be demonstrating the impressive technology of the historic racing cars. Behind the wheel for the demo runs: Formula 1 legend Jacky Ickx, five-time Le Mans winner Frank Biela, and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. Audi Tradition will also be giving the newly acquired Auto Union Type D Dual Compressor its first showing during the Goodwood Revival. More…

It’s fair to say that the Audi Forum New York City opened with the bang (of a 12-cylinder Auto Union Type D Silver Arrow) and the whisper (of an Audi R10 TDI). Back in 2006 Manhattanites gawked as Park Avenue was shut down and the Auto Union, the R10 and the American-debuting R8 coupe drove down the street. The racecars were piloted by Audi Sport works drivers. The R8 was piloted by Ralph Weyler, then head of marketing at Audi AG, and riding shotgun was New York’s mayor Bloomberg. “This is one of the most emotional moments in our heritage work for AUDI AG – we have come full circle,” says Thomas Frank, Head of Audi Tradition. A few weeks ago, the car manufacturer was able to repurchase an extremely rare Auto Union Silver Arrow racing car – consisting largely of original parts. It is the Auto Union twin-supercharger Type D dating from 1939, and is one of the two legendary “Karassik cars”.
