Silver Arrows Project Releases New Poster Prints

Silver Arrows Project, the history-based project seeking to visually re-tell the story of the Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows of the pre-war racing era, first came onto our radar when they showed up at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Since that time, the team has expanded their product offering to include these handsome poster prints just in time for the holidays.

Bernd Rosemeyer Rest Stop on A5 Autobahn to be Renamed

Reports out of Germany suggest the Rosemeyer Parkplatz in Germany is in danger of being renamed. The parking area next to the A5 Autobahn has long been a shrine to the Auto Union silver arrow ace nearly since his death in 1938, though the local government has seemingly chosen to move past that as it endeavors to change the name.

Audi and Mercedes-Benz will celebrate this weekend’s Goodwood Revival event with a rare running of the iconic German pre-war Silver Arrow racing cars. Among the mix will be Audi’s newly acquired Auto Union Type D, as well as a host of other originals and painstakingly accurate replicas. In the pantheon of motorsport and the automotive world as a whole, the so-called ‘Silver Arrow’ racing era must certainly go down as one of the most cutting edge of its day. Much like today’s F1 cars push the level of technology to a point almost alien to road cars today, so too were the Silver Arrows and especially the Ferdinand Porsche designed Auto Unions with their mid-engines and their impossible top speeds given aerodynamic and tire limitations at the time. Seeing the cars race must have assuredly been a spectacle, and for Americans the only chance to have witnessed such a show on home soil occurred exactly 75 years ago today. More…
