Audi and Partner FAW Cooperate on Plug-in Hybrid for China

Together with its Chinese joint-venture partner FAW, Audi is to launch a plug-in hybrid car for the Chinese market. The Audi A6 e-tron will be based on the long-wheelbase version of the Audi A6, which is already produced in China, and will be specially developed for the most important market of the German premium manufacturer.

Audi S5 Smashed by Shipping Container. Passengers Survive!

We’ve just run across some photos that seem to have come out of the equivalent of a Road Runner & Coyote cartoon. No, it wasn’t crushed by an anvil, but likely a steel shipping container is a whole lot worse anyway. Apparently the car was crushed when the container was thrown from a truck near Quanzhou, China.

Audi A3 Cabriolet Embargo Broken by Car & Driver China

It just so happens that next week is effectively the largest motor show in the world. The Frankfurt IAA happens but once every two years and it always means any number of introductions by manufacturers like Audi. Launches known to us include the Sport quattro Concept, TTS competition, the new Audi A8 and S8, and also the A3/S3 Cabriolet range. Of this group, only the A3/S3 Cabriolets have yet to be seen and are scheduled for reveal tonight. If you can’t wait however, it appears Car & Driver China has been happy to run the photos early.

Audi Celebrates Double Jubilee in China

Audi is today celebrating the 25th jubilee of its partnership with First Automotive Works (FAW). The approximately 2,000 guests in the grounds of the future production site for the Audi A3 Sedan and the Audi A3 Sportback in Foshan include board members of representatives of AUDI AG, of the partners FAW, and of the joint venture FAW-Volkswagen. At the same time, Audi is today delivering to a customer its two-millionth car in China, a locally produced Audi A6 L. The two companies have announced that they will work together on a plug-in-hybrid project.

Audi expands from China into other Asian markets with the Audi R8 LMS Cup. Following the successful premiere season in China in 2012, Audi’s first one-make race series worldwide will now visit circuits in South Korea, Malaysia and Macau. The number of Audi R8 LMS GT3 race cars competing thus increases from 16 to more than 20. As a result, the automobile brand with the four rings gives motorsport in Asia another boost. More…
