A rumor centering out of AutoExpress suggests big changes are afoot at Audi Sport. If true, the story signals an Audi Sport departure from LMP1 sportscar racing and also the DTM in favor of F1. Strong showing by the four rings in the DTM finale at Hockenheim (Sunday live on ‘Das Erste’ starting 13.30): Miguel Molina, Mattias Ekström and Edoardo Mortara secured the best three grid positions for Audi for the last race of the year. Yesterday we reported Audi Sport’s confirmation of an all-new motorsport program that will be announced at the Hockenheim DTM round in about a week and a half. We’d thrown down some guesses as to what that program might be (Formula E, new R8 LMS or some sort of Tudor series compatible LMP), but none of that made much sense being announced at a DTM round. DTM and Super GT Agree to New Class One Regulations. IMSA Involved.

DTM and the Japanese Super GT are making big steps forward, in their co-operation. Since the beginning of the 2014 season, the technical regulations – mainly in the chassis and the aero areas – have been identical, in the two series and from 2017, there also will be joint engine regulations: two litres, four cylinders, turbo charged. These are the key data of the new ‘Class One’ – how it will be internationally called. That was agreed upon by DTM rights holder and promoter ITR e.V., the Japanese Super-GT organisers GTA and all the manufacturers involved during a joint meeting, on 30th October in Tokyo. In addition, the American motor-racing association, IMSA, also plans to announce races according to the new Class-One regulations. More…
