Much like the SEMA Show and also the Essen Motor Show, Tuning World Bodensee is more aftermarket industry show than enthusiast gathering… though it still likely qualifies as both. While private owners of show cars certainly vie to show their cars here, Tuning World Bodensee is also the place for tuning houses like Abt Sportsline or MTM to show off their latest product.

Officially, the Worthersee tour begins next week. This enthusiast exposition in Austria is the largest of its kind and that’s when you’ll see a huge mass of attendees and an official presence by Audi and some of its Volkswagen Group brandmates. The week before… it’s more laid back and a time for the serious connoisseurs to roll into town without all of the burnouts and craziness that make up the actual show week. While we’ll have feet on the ground next week, we’ve enlisted a few of our friends who are veterans of the event to help tell the story of this pre-week.

I don’t get to attend as many car shows as I’d like to, but I saw a Big SoCal Euro event invite pop up in my Facebook Newsfeed and with over 1,500 people committed to going and knew this was one I wouldn’t want to miss. I traveled to San Diego from Phoenix (a 370 mile drive!) along with several other Arizonans to check out one of the biggest European car events California has to offer, and it didn’t disappoint. The Qualcomm Stadium parking lot was PACKED full of European cars of nearly every brand, and the modifications to each car ranged from moderate to extreme, from “stanced out” to “race prepped” and there was literally something for everyone who enjoys cars.

Following the recent unexpected change to the 2013 Formula 1 calendar, it has been necessary to change the published dates of the Goodwood Festival of Speed to avoid a clash with the revised German Grand Prix – and to ensure that the Festival can continue to host current F1 teams and drivers in 2013.

Johnny Petrina stands just two steps the APR Project Reunion TT RS’ 11’oclock. You can’t see his eyes through his dark Oakley sunglasses, but the Alabama tuner’s Director of Operations is peering in the general direction of his other cars – an S4, an S7, an RS 5 and, oh yeah, a $350,000 Audi R8 GRAND-AM race car. The R8 he’s eyeing isn’t the car that just won second place in Lime Rock, because that car and most of the team are three states away in Lime Rock Connecticut. Depending on how you look at it, Johnny may be missing out… but then again maybe not. This past weekend we attended Dubs on the Delaware in the Pennsylvania Poconos. Much like the East Coast show scene, Dubs on the Delaware reflects a strong trend of growth and an even stronger move toward European brand diversification.
