Audi with Second 24 Hour Victory in Seven Days Thanks to Nurburgring Win

Audi has won the Nürburgring 24 Hours exactly one week following the brand’s 13th success in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Phoenix Racing with the Audi R8 LMS ultra celebrated a hard-fought victory in its home round in the Eifel. Ernst Moser’s squad had previously taken the honors in the race through the ‘Green Hell’ with Audi’s GT3 sports car in 2012. With 159 laps the R8 LMS ultra set a new distance record this year. For the first time ever, a Nürburgring winner covered more than 4,000 kilometers – the successful Audi squad completing exactly 4,035.102 kilometers. More…

Q&A: Markus Winkelhock on Victory in Daytona

We’ve just returned to our hotel in Daytona Beach and are downloading all of the content we captured during the race. And, while we’d like to lead with some great photos and video or basic news, we’ve decided to instead lead with a post-race interview with Audi driver Markus Winkelhock. Audi was declared the winner somewhat controversially when a ruling was made by IMSA following a mixup between the Ferrari that Winkelhock was battling for the lead. While we could describe the situation more thoroughly, we figure we’ll leave that up to Markus Winkelhock who we were lucky enough to catch up and chat with as he exited the podium with his Flying Lizard teammates.

The etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben proved a good stomping ground for ex-DTM driver Christian Abt in the 2009 season; Abt lifted the ADAC GT Masters title at the circuit. Four years later, the newly formed team Prosperia C. Abt Racing composed of Christian Abt, Christopher Mies (23, Germany) and René Rast (26, Germany) triumphed at the season-opener in an Audi R8 after going on a superb charge up the field. From 15th position on the grid, the Audi drivers achieved victory in the first race of the season. In an action-packed race on a wet track, second and third went to the Porsche duos of Philip Frommenwiler (23 Switzerland)/Mario Farnbacher (20, Germany/Farnbacher Racing) and Robert Renauer (28, Germany)/Martin Ragginger (25, Austria/Tonino-Herberth Motorsport).

Phoenix Racing will put two Audi R8 LMS ultra cars sporting the elegant black-white design of its new partner G-Drive on the grid at the Nürburgring 24 Hours held over the Pentecost weekend (17 to 20 May). Ernst Moser’s team is aiming to repeat last year’s victory in partnership with G-Drive fuel, the premium brand of the Russian oil company Gazprom Neft, and Audi Sport customer racing. Phoenix is using the VLN Endurance Championship races to prepare for the classic event in the “Green Hell”.

The ADAC GT Masters is gearing up for a spectacular start to the season over the weekend of 26th – 28th April at the etropolis Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The Super Sports Car League enters the 2013 season with a field of 25 supercars, a roll call of celebrity names from Formula 1 and DTM, plus exciting new teams and driver partnerships. This array of immensely powerful vehicles – some in the 600bhp bracket – comprises no fewer than eight different marques, and occupying the cockpits will be a host of well-known names such as ex-Formula 1 driver and FIA GT1 World Champion Markus Winkelhock (32), former Audi DTM driver Rahel Frey ( 27, Switzerland), and sports car ace Jörg Müller (43).
