Jubilee at Audi: The six-millionth Audi with quattro drive rolls off the production line at the Ingolstadt plant today – only about one and a half years after the five-millionth quattro. Audi will deliver the jubilee car, an Audi SQ5* in monsoon gray metallic, to a family in the United States. This new production record demonstrates the global success of Audi quattro. Since the original quattro, the first Audi with permanent all-wheel drive in the year 1980, this technology has conquered the roads of the world. With approximately 170 quattro versions, the brand with the Four Rings offers the biggest selection of all-wheel drive vehicles amongst the premium manufacturers. More…

While on the ground in Ingolstadt last week, we couldn’t help but notice a distinct trend. It’s not that quattro-equipped Audis are rare… especially in the brand’s home town. Even still, it seemed most any of these cars now sported ‘quattro’ script decals on their lower rear rear flanks. The first time we ever noticed […] More…

When it comes to European or Japanese car enthusiasts, the grass is always greener on the other side of the ocean. The unspoken rule of car production is that the home market always gets more selection, especially the “good stuff” that never really made a business case for exportation to the USA. Audi is very much a brand that fits this mould and so there are many niche performance models wearing the four rings that American buyers can figuratively look at but can’t touch… that is… until they’re 25 years old.

So what’s new about this psychadelic-wrapped test mule? Enough to make us think we’re in the final weeks or months before a production debut.
