As vintage shows go, the Techno Classica in Essen might just be more of an classic car show for the industry than the typical rich guys rolling their classics onto a lawn and calling it a Concours. No, this event is held inside much like an industry car show and, in fact, no less than 27 brands have an official presence here… Audi amongst them. More…

The venerable Audi ur quattro enjoyed a bit of a renaissance from 2008 to 2010 when a 1983 red example starred alongside actors Phil Glenister and Keeley Hawes in the BBC primetime ’80s period cop show ‘Ashes to Ashes’. The car, a right-hand drive 1983 2.1-liter has now appeared on Ebay’s UK site and is up for auction to the highest bidder.

When it comes to European or Japanese car enthusiasts, the grass is always greener on the other side of the ocean. The unspoken rule of car production is that the home market always gets more selection, especially the “good stuff” that never really made a business case for exportation to the USA. Audi is very much a brand that fits this mould and so there are many niche performance models wearing the four rings that American buyers can figuratively look at but can’t touch… that is… until they’re 25 years old.

The original quattro coupe is something of a unicorn amongst Audi aficionados. While not impossible to find, finding a well-kept original is becoming increasingly difficult. As such, when what looks like a clean sub-100k mile Mars Red example pops up on Ebay, it warrants a mention in our Find of the Day series. More…

In the modding scene, there’s not much cooler than vintage wheels crafted of unobtainium. And in the world of impossible-to-find alloys amongst Audi fans, we’re not sure we’d rate any wheel quite so high as the 16-inch magnesium Speedlines Audi Sport switched to when they needed a +1 16-inch diameter to replace the tried-and-true Ronals or Fuchs 5-spokers.

Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay is a known sufferer from the car affliction. The Brit rock star is a regular at events like Goodwood for obvious reasons and also sports a fairly extensive history with the Audi brand. Perhaps it’s not so surprising then when it is revealed Jay picked up a new RS 6 Avant.

Bucket list worthy. That’s the general consensus about the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The event is a four-day extravaganza of all that is good in motoring and motorsport, held on the expansive Goodwood Estate in the UK and centering around a 1.16 mile hillclimb attended by 185,000 spectators over the course of the weekend. Over these four days, 150 star drivers and riders present no less than 500 vehicles… certainly an impressive mix to help celebrate the 20th annual running of this must-see event. Not surprisingly, Goodwood is a staple on the annual automotive calendar and a key date for both Audi Tradition and Audi UK.

At this year’s Festival of Speed, which takes place at Goodwood in the South of England from 12 – 14 July, Audi Tradition will celebrate three major anniversaries. Held for the twentieth time, the Festival is the largest historic motor sport event in the world and attracts 150,000 visitors from all over the world with its “Best of” programme. For this, Audi is shipping over an iconic vehicle, the 1936 Auto Union Type C racing car, and is also celebrating two other milestones in the history of Audi Sport: in 1983, 30 years ago, Hannu Mikkola became the first Audi driver to clinch the World Rally Championship title, at the wheel of the Audi Rallye quattro A2, and 25 years ago Audi Sport took the American TransAm title with the Audi 200 quattro, in the very first year in which it was entered for this race series.

Just consider the name. The Carlisle Import, Kit & Replica Nationals is an eclectic hodgepodge of one cars and one of the widest mixes of makes, marques and automotive names you’re ever likely to encounter on any given show field throughout the summer. Located adjacent to the picturesque Pennsylvania Turnpike in the town of Carlisle, the event plays host to many enthusiast car shows over the summer season. And, as far as Carlisle’s organizers are concerned, mid-May means a call to all imported cars, kit cars and replicas. It is a mix to be sure, and while you’ll have to ask yourself (or a buddy) if that Ferrari you see cruising past is real, there’s no question that you’ll find many Audis of nearly every form in town for this event.
