Death is something so many of us in racing may have nearly forgotten about. I’m not talking about the guys in the cars. I’m sure they’re always aware just how incredible the speed can be. However, you remember wrecks like Allan McNish’s spectacular end-over-end in 2011 or Anthony Davidson’s Toyota going airborn and hard into the barriers at Arnage a year later. Early this morning, Audi Sport factory driver Allan McNish dropped a bomb on the world of motorsport when he abruptly announced his decision to retire having just recently secured his place on the 2013 championship winning team in the World Endurance Challenge. Though not as young as some of his teammates, many drivers in motorsport and especially sportscar racing choose to continue their careers well beyond his age of 44. Even still, McNish isn’t most drivers.

Tom Kristensen Nominated as FIA Personality of the Year

Audi factory driver Tom Kristensen has been nominated for a new, high-caliber award – the FIA Personality of the Year. The FIA invited all permanently accredited media of the FIA World Championships to nominate three candidates, respectively. From more than 80 names the ten most frequently submitted ones have been selected. The nine-time Le Mans winner and WEC Champion Tom Kristensen, as well as the World Champions from other disciplines, is on this exclusive list. From November 20 to December 4 the accredited media will be able to vote for their FIA Personality of the Year, who will be honored at the FIA gala in Paris on December 6. More…
